FG mobilising MDAs to reduce inflation, stabilise naira— Minister

The Federal Government on Sunday said it is mobilising its Ministries, Departments and Agencies to “bring down inflation, stabilise the foreign exchange rates and create an enabling environment for business and investment.”
This is as it said, Nigeria’s economy is receiving investment inflows worth $14bn from Indian businesses that pledged to invest in the country at the G20 Summit held last September. While describing the recent killings in Plateau State as “regrettable,” it vowed that its perpetrators must face justice. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed these in a statement he signed on Sunday, titled ‘Amidst challenges, Nigeria will forge ahead.’

Atiku urges enhanced security measures as Niger, others exit ECOWAS

The Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called for a tight security measure in the wake of the withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger from the Economic Community of West African States.
The military regimes of the three Sahel countries who have been at loggerheads with ECOWAS over sanctions imposed on them, announced their withdrawal forthwith from the regional bloc in a joint statement on Sunday. With the withdrawal, many believe Nigeria’s fight against terrorism could be affected considering the country borders Niger Republic up north.

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service has asked Nigerian ssocialite and businesswoman, Aisha Achimugu, to remember to file her annual tax returns. The call came amid the outcry that greeted the businesswoman’s lavish 50th birthday celebration. The FCT-IRS gave the reminder in a now-deleted post on X (formerly X) while responding to a post on the seven-day party, which Achimugu hosted in Grenada, a Caribbean Island country. “The FCT-Internal Revenue Service extends our warmest birthday wishes to you! May this special day be filled with joy and blessing. Remember to fulfill your tax obligations by filing your annual tax returns,” the post read.

Police arrest suspected kidnapper linked to murder of Nabeeha

Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force have arrested a suspected kidnapper believed to be involved in the abduction and murder of Nabeeha, daughter of a Bwari lawyer. Recall that about 19 abductees were taken away by bandits from the Sagwari Estate Layout in the Dutsen-Alhaji area in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The kidnappers were demanding N700m ransom for nine of their victims.

Ogun police arrest suspected serial rapist

The Ogun State Police Command said it had arrested an alleged serial rapist, kidnapper, and murderer, AbdulAzeez Ibrahim, in the Imaweje community of Ijebu-Ode on Sunday.
The command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, who spoke to PUNCH Online, said Ibrahim was arrested at about 2:30 am on Sunday. The command said the suspect was also a leader and gunrunner for the notorious Neo-Black Axe Movement, otherwise known as the Aye Confraternity.

52 Kano keke riders nabbed over immoral haircut

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested no fewer than 52 commercial tricycle operators popularly known as Yan Adaidaita Sahu over alleged immoral haircuts, selling illegal drugs and substances and mixing with females in their vehicles. The tricycle riders were apprehended by operatives of the Hisbah command in different parts of the Kano metropolis. The Hisbah command had recently launched an exercise tagged “Operation Kau da Badala,” (Operation Fight against Immorality) which it said would sanitise Kano State from immoral activities such as prostitution, drug abuse, and the sale and consumption of alcohol, among others.

Customs seize N4bn cocaine, arms from South Africa

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Command, said it intercepted cocaine, arms and ammunition worth N4.3bn. The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this while addressing journalists during the handing over of the seized contraband at the command on Thursday. Adeniyi said that the seized contraband came from South Africa and Canada.
